Abstract

A process for modifying the shape of a lyocell elongate member is characterized by: the shape of elongate lyocell members can be modified by applying a transverse deforming force to the member while it is in plasticised never dried state. Possible modifications include the induction of crimp and the alteration of fiber cross-section from the circular. Suitable plasticisers include aqueous sodium hydroxide and aqueous tertiary amine N-oxides. The deforming force may be applied by passage of the elongate member through a constriction or over an edge.
