Abstract

A method comprising:specifying n independent information dimensions, in which each dimension comprises a parameter associated with data to be displayed in an m-dimensional display medium, m<n; specifying k data functions defined on subsets of the n information dimensions, in which each of the k data functions comprises a range of possible values; associating at least one of the k functions with one or more aspects of the m-dimensional display medium, in which each aspect comprises a range of possible values that can be displayed on that aspect; and, for each aspect, mapping the range of the functions associated with that aspect to the range of values that can be displayed on that aspect on the m-dimensional display medium. The method is such that original information in the n independent dimensions can be mapped to the m-dimensional display medium, preserving invariant a content of the original information.
