Abstract

A process of producing 1,4-butanediol, which comprises using allyl alcohol which comprises less than 10wt% of CH2=CHCH2COOCCH3 and less than 30 wt% of water as impurity, organic solvent, rhodium complex and phosphorous compound under the presence of carbon monoxide and hydrogen to undergo aldehyde reaction; followed by under the presence of carbon monoxide and hydrogen or hydrogen using alkaline aqueous solution to extract out aldehyde products; recycling the rhodium complex raffinate to be used in the aldehyde reaction and adding hydrogenation catalyst into the extract under the presence of hydrogen to undergo hydrogenation reaction and obtain 1,4-butanediol; in which the rhodium complex is selected from carbohydro-tri triphenylphosphine) rhodium, chloro-carbo-di(triphenylphosphine) rhodium, and acetyl acetone carbo(triphenylphosphine) rhodium; and the phosphorous compound is selected from mono phosphorous compound and bi phosphorous compound; and the alkaline solution is an aqueous solution of hydroxide and carbonate; and the pH value of the extract is controlled at 5~9.
