Abstract

This invention is a battery temperature management system for an electric car. The battery temperature management system comprises a temperature management module, a heating module, a cooling module, and a control module. The temperature management module comprises a corresponding battery module setup, a refrigerant/HTM fluid pipeline that allows the circulation of a temperature regulating fluid, and a heat exchanger that is setup along the refrigerant/HTM fluid pipeline. The control module individually controls the heating module and the cooling module in order to providing and taking away heat energy to/from the temperature regulating fluid at the heat exchanger. The temperature management module works with the control module to control the heating module and the cooling module in order to maintaining the temperature of the battery module to be kept within a region of operating temperatures. This design can help preventing the battery module from abnormal operation during charge/discharge cycles, or during cold weather which can cause temperature to swing too high or too low.
