Abstract

Provided is a high-quality melt anisotropic aromatic polyester fiber which does not undergo fibrillation, single yarn breakage or the like during a rewinding process and a heat treatment process and therefore has excellent post-process passability in spite of the fact that the fiber has a small single yarn fineness degree. A melt anisotropic aromatic polyester fiber characterized by being a multi-filament which comprises an aromatic polyester that can exhibit anisotropic properties upon melting and which has a single yarn fineness degree of 4.0 dtex or less, and also characterized in that the number of fluffs is less than 3 per 1,000,000 m of the fiber. It is preferred that the aromatic polyester fiber has a total fineness degree of 10 to 500 dtex inclusive and the number of filaments falls within the range from 3 to 1000.
