Description

Method for remotely starting host and system and electronic device thereof

The present invention relates to a remote control mechanism, and more particularly to a method of remotely starting a host, a system therefor, and an electronic device.

Due to the development of electronic technology, computers and various information digital devices are becoming more and more popular, and in order to achieve resource sharing, the Internet is a necessary configuration for information exchange. Today, with the development of network communication, many computer products are designed to have network communication functions, and often support the function of network wake-up.

Wake on LAN (WOL) is a technology and the standard of this technology. Its function is to let the computer that has entered the sleep state or the shutdown state send commands to the other end of the network to make it The sleep state wakes up, returns to the operational state, or transitions from the shutdown state to the power-on state.

In general, the Wake-on-LAN mechanism can be used to wake up the computer directly through the Internet connection. However, based on the security considerations of computer information confidentiality, firewalls usually do not allow remote users to access the local area network to which the computer belongs via the Internet. Alternatively, the Wake-on-LAN mechanism can also be powered on by obtaining an Internet Protocol (IP) address. However, if the computer is powered off and back on, the IP address of the computer will become the dynamic IP address, so the IP address of the computer cannot be obtained for booting.

In general, the underlying situation will disable the Wake-on-LAN feature, causing remote users to fail to boot the host, ie, when the host is in a shutdown or hibernation state, if the firewall does not allow remote users to access the Internet. The way to start the host; or when the host is a dynamic IP address and is in a state of powering down and powering up. To this end, the present invention provides a remote booting method and a remote booting system, such that the host is in any powered state, and the remote device can boot the host. In order to clarify the content of the present invention, the following specific examples are given as examples in which the present invention can be implemented.

110。 FIG. 1A is a block diagram of a remote booting system in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Referring to FIG. 1A, the remote boot system 100 includes a host 110, a remote device 120, a server 130, and a control device 140. The server 130 is coupled to the remote device 120. The control device 140 is coupled to the host 110 and the server 130 respectively for use as a remotely activated relay station. That is to say, a control device 140 is added, and the server 130 is used to monitor whether the authenticated remote device 120 is to be activated. Once it is confirmed that the remote device 120 has issued a power-on command, a start signal is transmitted to the host 110.

In the remote boot system 100, the host 100 and the control device 140 are disposed in the electronic device 101. That is, the electronic device 101 actively uses the control device 140 to query whether the server 130 has a power-on command, so that when the power-on command is detected in the server 130, the control device 140 issues a start signal to the host 110, thereby waking up the host 110. . Here, the control device 140 may be an embedded chip disposed on the motherboard of the host 110, or A device external to the host 110. Moreover, as soon as power is supplied to the electronic device 101, the control device 140 is always in an operating state.

In the present embodiment, the remote device 120 transmits a power-on command to the server 130 via the Internet W, for example. The server 130 is, for example, a network server that can connect to the remote device 120 via the Internet W and receive the power-on command transmitted by the remote device 120. Moreover, the server 130 can also communicate with the control device 140 via the Internet W.

The host 110 and the remote device 120 are, for example, a personal computer, a notebook computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a mobile phone, or other electronic device having a mobile communication function, and are not limited to the above. For convenience of description, only one host 110 is shown here. However, in practical applications, the number of hosts 110 is not limited. That is, according to the remote booting system 100 of the present embodiment, the remote device 120 may select multiple One of the hosts allows the host to be remotely activated in any powered state, even if it is in a shutdown, power down, or hibernation state.

An embodiment is described below to detail the components of the remote start system 100 described above. However, this is merely an example and is not limited thereto.

132。 FIG. 1B is a block diagram of a remote booting system in accordance with another embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 1B, the server 130 can include a register 132. When the value of the register 132 is the first preset value, it indicates that the server 130 receives the power-on command from the remote device 120. When the value of the register 132 is the second preset value, it indicates that the server 130 has not received the power-on command from the remote device 120. For example, the value preset in the register 132 can be set to a second preset value, and the server 130 receives the power-on command from the remote device 120. After that, the value of the register 132 is changed to the first preset value. In addition, when the control device 140 controls the plurality of hosts 110, the number of the registers 132 can also be set according to the number of the hosts 110, that is, one host 110 corresponds to one register 132.

Here, the register 132 is, for example, a flag, the first preset value is, for example, 1 and the second preset value is, for example, 0. For example, the value of the register 132 is previously set to "0" (second preset value). When the server 130 receives the power-on command from the remote device 120 to start the host 110, the server 130 changes the value of the register 132 to "1" (the first preset value). On the other hand, if the server 130 has not received the power-on command from the remote device 120 to start the host 110, the value of the register 132 will remain at "0".

It is worth mentioning that the server 130 can also be an email server. The remote device 120 can transmit a power-on command to the server 130 via email. For example, the email transmitted by the remote device 120 may include a text message, a number or a parameter, etc., as a power-on command, so that the server 130 can receive the related text message after receiving the email. Information such as numbers, parameters, etc. to determine whether a power-on command is included in the email.

In addition, the server 130 can also be a server of the social networking website, and the power-on command is issued through the in-site message function of the social networking website. Alternatively, the server 130 can also be a server of a communication application in the smart phone.

130。 In addition, the control device 140 may include an operation unit 142, a network interface 144, and a timing control unit 146. The network interface 144 is coupled to the computing unit 142 , and the timing control unit 146 is coupled to the computing unit 142 . in Thus, the network interface 144 is, for example, a physical network (eg, Ethernet). Control device 140 can be connected to server 130 via network interface 144.

The operation unit 142 can transmit an inquiry command to the server 130 to inquire whether the server 130 has a power-on instruction. Timing control unit 146 provides a timing control mechanism. For example, the timing control unit 146 may notify the arithmetic unit 142 to transmit an inquiry command to the server 130 every other time interval. Therefore, the operation unit 142 can detect that the server 130 has a power-on command by querying the command. In other words, under the cooperation of the computing unit 142, the network interface 144, and the timing control unit 146, the control device 140 can transmit an inquiry command to the server 130 every other time interval, thereby detecting whether the server 130 has a power-on command.

In this embodiment, the control device 140 can also be coupled to the host 110 through a connection interface 148 to transmit a startup signal to the host 110. Here, the connection interface 148 is, for example, a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) interface, a Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIE) interface, or a universal serial bus (USB) interface. .

In addition, in other embodiments, the control device 140 can also transmit a startup signal to activate the host 110 through a network component (such as a network card) that supports Wake On LAN (WOL) on the motherboard. The network element can be used, for example, with the same network card used to connect to the server 130, or another network card.

110。 Since the control device 140 can detect the server every time interval Whether the device has a power-on command, therefore, when the host device 110 is in a state of power-off or hibernation, once the control device 140 detects that the server 130 has a power-on command, it can transmit a start signal to the host 110 through the connection interface 148 to start the host. 110.

The following describes the method of remotely starting the host with the remote start system 100 described above. FIG. 2 is a flow chart of a method for remotely starting a host according to an embodiment of the invention. The method in this embodiment is suitable for starting the host 110 through the control device 140. Here, the host 110 is, for example, in a state of being turned off or hibernating.

130。 Referring to FIG. 1A, FIG. 1B and FIG. 2 simultaneously, in step S201, the control device 140 is connected to the server 130. For example, control device 140 is connected to server 130 via Internet W.

Next, in step S203, the control device 140 detects whether the server 130 has a power-on command. For example, the control device 140 can notify the computing unit 142 to send an inquiry command to the server 130 every other time interval by the timing control unit 146, thereby detecting whether the server 130 has a power-on command. For example, the control device 140 can be set to transmit an inquiry command to the server 130 every t minutes (time interval) to detect whether the server 130 has a power-on command.

Further, the timing control unit 146 notifies the arithmetic unit 142 every t minutes, so that the arithmetic unit 142 transmits an inquiry command to the server 130, so that the server 130 checks the value in its register 132. Moreover, after reading the value of the register 132, the server 130 can transmit a response to the control device 140. In other embodiments, if there are multiple hosts 110, the server 130 may also check the value of the register 132 corresponding to each host 110 one by one.

When the control device 140 receives the response from the server 130, the operation unit 142 can determine whether the server 130 has the power-on command by using the response. For example, the received response includes the value of the scratchpad 132. When the value of the register 132 is the first preset value, the operation unit 142 determines that the server 130 has a power-on command; on the other hand, when the value of the register 132 is the second preset value, the operation unit 142 It is determined that the server 130 does not have a power-on command.

For example, assume that host 110 has an identification code "01" and host 110 corresponds to register 132. Meanwhile, it is assumed that the value of the register 132 is previously set to "0" (second preset value).

When the remote device 120 transmits the power-on command of the host 110 of the identification code "01" to the server 130, the server 130 changes the value in the register 132 corresponding to the identification code "01" to "1" ( The first preset value). On the other hand, if the server 130 has not received the machine command to start the host 110 from the remote device 120, the value of the register 132 will remain at "0". In this way, the control device 140 can detect whether the server 130 has a power-on command for the host device 110 to power on the host device 110.

In addition, when the server 130 is implemented by the email server, when the server 130 receives the email from the remote device 120, the server 130 can determine by itself whether the email includes the power-on command to start the host 110. If yes, the value of the register 132 corresponding to the host 110 is set to a first preset value. Thereafter, the control device 140 can be based on an identified account Wire to server 130. Among them, the identification account includes an email account and password. Similarly, the control device 140 transmits an inquiry command to the server 130 every other time interval to detect whether the server 130 has a power-on command.

Thereafter, in step S205, when the control device 140 detects that the server 130 has a power-on command, the control device 140 transmits a start signal to the host 110 to start the host 110. Further, the control device 140 can transmit an activation signal to the host 110 through the connection interface 148. That is to say, when the host 110 is in a state of shutdown or hibernation, the control device 140 can also activate the host 110 even if the host 110 is a dynamic IP address.

In summary, in the above embodiment, the server receives the power-on command transmitted by the remote device, and uses the control device to actively query whether the server has a power-on command for powering on the host, and the server can be detected. When there is a power-on command, the control device issues a start signal to the host to start the host (for example, booting or waking up the host, etc.). In this way, through the operation of the control device and the server, the remote device can transmit the startup signal to the host by the control device to start the host by simply transmitting the power-on command to wake up the host to the server. Thereby, the user can remotely control the host through the remote device anytime and anywhere.
