Abstract

This invention provides a polarizer and method for producing the same. The polarizer of this invention comprises polarizing films and transparent protective films arranged on both surface of the polarizing films wherein a difference between a linear expansion coefficient of the polarizing film in the orthogonal direction to its absorption axis and a linear expansion coefficient of at least one of the transparent protective film in the orthogonal direction to the absorption axis of the polarizing film is 1.3x10-4/ DEG C or less. The polarizer of this invention has excellent endurance under a thermal shock enviroment.
