In other embodiments, the tape core support member 440 can be a circular projection extending from the second cover plate 400 into the tape roll housing 200 (see Figure 7). In any event, the tape core support 440 helps to confine the tape roll 500 while being in the tape roll housing 200. The tape dispenser 100 includes a tape dispensing mechanism 210 that includes at least one dispenser opening 211 (which is in the side wall 206 of the tape roll housing 200 146514.doc 201033105) and a cutting edge 2丨2 . Included between the dispenser opening 2丨丨 and the cutting edge 212 is a support plate 214 that acts as a surface to attach one of the mating ends of the tape so that it is accessible and ready For further use. Further, the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 includes a movable cover 215 having a plurality of locking projections 216 that engage the recesses 218 to retain the movable cover 215 in a locked, closed position. The movable cover 215 is coupled to the protective wall 2〇6 by a hinge 217 which allows the movable cover 215 to be moved from an open position as shown in Fig. 4 to a closed position as shown in Fig. 5. The function of the event cover 215 is described in more detail in U.S. Patent Application Publication No. US 2008/0105723, filed on November 3, 2006. The dispensing mechanism 2, shown in detail in Figures 1, 4 and 5, allows the tape roll 500 to be entirely contained within the tape dispenser 100 when in the closed position. This protects the tape roll 5 from contamination. In Figures 2 and 3, the dispensing mechanism 210 is not shown in the figures. In one embodiment, the movable cover 215 does not extend beyond the length of the lateral flanges 330, 430. Figure 6 is an exploded perspective view of a tape dispenser 1 . When assembled, the tape dispenser 100 appears essentially as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The tape dispenser 100 includes a tape roll housing 200, a first cover 3 and a second cover 400. The tape roll housing 200 includes a first side 202 adjacent the first cover 3 and a second side 204 adjacent the second cover 400. Included between the first side 202 and the second side 204 of the Koi tape roll housing 200 is a protective wall 206. In this embodiment, the protective wall 2〇6 is circular to closely follow the contour of the circular tape roll 500 contained therein. The protective wall 206 defines an outer casing perimeter 207' which is the outermost extension from the central axis extending through the center of the tape roll 500 supported by 146514.doc 201033105. In this embodiment, the outer casing perimeter 207 is circular. In this embodiment, along the protective wall 206 are a plurality of attachment openings 208 that engage the connector pins 310 to connect the first cover 300 to the tape roll housing 200. In this embodiment, both the first cover 300 and the second cover 400 are removable from the tape roll housing 200. Each cover plate 300, 400 includes a plurality of attachment pins 310, 410 that engage the attachment openings 208 of the tape roll housing 200. This friction fit secures the first cover 300 and the second cover 400 to the tape roll housing 200. It will be appreciated that other attachment mechanisms can be used to connect the first cover 300 and the second cover 400 to the tape roll housing 200. The first cover 300 includes a first cover perimeter 320. At least a portion of the first cover perimeter 320 extends beyond the tape roll housing perimeter 207 to form a first lateral flange 330. The first cover 300 completely covers the tape roll housing 200 to restrict access to the roll of tape 500 contained therein. The second cover 400 includes a second cover perimeter 420. In this embodiment, the second cover perimeter 420 extends beyond the outer casing perimeter 207 to form a second lateral flange 430. The second cover 400 completely covers the tape roll housing 200 to restrict access to the roll of tape 500 contained therein. In this embodiment, the first cover 300 or the second cover 400 does not include a tape core support 440. Instead, the tape roll housing 200 fully contains the tape roll 500. The tape dispenser 100 includes a tape dispensing mechanism 210 that includes a dispenser opening 211 (which is in the protective wall 146514.doc 201033105 206 of the tape roll housing 200) and a cutting edge 212. In one embodiment, the cutting edge 212 does not extend beyond the length of the lateral flanges 330, 430. This provides a more securely positioned cutting edge 2 12 . Figure 7 is an exploded perspective view of a tape dispenser 100. When assembled, the tape dispenser 100 appears essentially as shown in Figures 2 and 3. The tape dispenser 100 includes a tape roll housing 200, a first cover 300, and a second cover 400. In this embodiment, the second cover 400 is shown as being secured to the tape roll housing 200. Additionally, in this embodiment, instead of the connection inspections, the first cover 300 includes a attachment surface 310 that mates and engages the tape roll housing 200 through a friction fit. The first cover 300 includes a first cover perimeter 3 20 . At least a portion of the first cover perimeter 320 extends beyond the tape roll housing perimeter 207 to form a first lateral flange 330 (Fig. 3). The first cover 300 completely covers the tape roll housing 200 to restrict access to the roll of tape 500 contained therein. The second cover 400 includes a second cover perimeter 420. In this embodiment, the second cover perimeter 420 extends beyond the outer casing perimeter 207 to form a second lateral flange 430 (Fig. 3). The second cover 400 completely covers the tape roll housing 200 to restrict access to the roll of tape 500 contained therein. In this embodiment, the second cover 400 includes a tape core support 440. However, as shown in Fig. 1, the tape core support 440 is not at the center of the second cover 400. Instead, the tape core support 440 is off-center. Thus, if the dispenser 100 is positioned upright (as shown in FIG. 3) on a table top, table top or other similar surface, the weight of the tape 500 on the tape core support 440 will tend to cause the tape to be applied The adapter maintains I46514.doc -10- 201033105 stationary and does not scroll on the surface. It will be appreciated that this feature may be provided in the previously described embodiments. In this embodiment, the holding legs 601, 6〇2 are further shown. The solid legs 601, 6〇2 are extended outwardly along the periphery of the first cover plate 300. The retaining legs 601, 602 are also located on the periphery of the second cover 4, but are not visible in this view. The retaining legs 6〇1, 6〇2 provide a stabilizing surface that allows the tape dispenser 1 to be positioned upright (as shown in Figure 3) without rolling on a surface. It will be appreciated that a variety of sizes and numbers of such locating feet can be included and that the locating feet can be projections from the tape roll housing 200. It will be appreciated that this feature can be provided in the previously described embodiment commands. Further identified in this embodiment is the landing surface (landing = faCe) 2 () 9. - The landing surface is attached to one of the surfaces before the cutting edge (4) tape is used. For example, the t' tape is pulled from the dispenser opening 21 to the desired length, and then the user engages the tape against the landing.
