Abstract
To provide a TN mode liquid crystal display element free from generation of a bright spot and having superior visual field angle characteristics in a wide range and to provide a retardation film for the TN mode liquid crystal display element used for the same. The TN mode liquid crystal display element wherein two polarizing plates each having the retardation film composed of a thermoplastic resin and a polarizer are disposed sandwiching a liquid crystal cell is characterized in that the retardation films which constitute the respective polarizing plates satisfy specified optical characteristics. The retardation film for the TN mode liquid crystal display element used for the same is also provided.
