Abstract

Corner guards suitable for use with a bedding assembly and providing a degree of fire resistance. The corner guards may contain fire/flame resistant (FR) polymeric reagents, flammable polymeric reagents combined with one or more FR agent or have an FR coating. Additionally, the corner guards may have effective FR properties while substantially maintaining the mechanical properties that allow the corner guard to support and protect the edges of upholstered furniture, such as a foundation or sofa. The corner guards arise, at least in part, from the realization that flare ups occurring during the test about the combustion of an FR foundation, result from high burn temperatures causing the corner guard to melt and the subsequently combustion of the melted polymeric material.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION: TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION The field of the invention relates to furniture and in particular to fire corner protectors for mattress, seat and bedding assemblies. In particular, it relates to the application and manufacture of fire corner protectors for bedding assemblies. [Prior Art] Today, the mattress industry is taking steps to make mattresses with reduced sensitivity to open flames. This target will provide a mattress and bed that will resist burning when exposed to an open flame and when the room or home begins to burn. ❹ To slow down the burning rate of mattresses, engineers and chemists have studied mattress and base structures to identify how open flames can affect these structures and identify techniques for retarding fire spread. These engineers and chemists have modeled the gaskets and shim of mattresses and bases as fuel sources, and have developed techniques for retarding the burning of such materials. To this end, the mattress is designed to contain two key fire protection systems. The first fire protection system is a fire barrier in the mattress that isolates the highly flammable material contained in the core cushion of the mattress. The second fire protection system is a chemical/polymer fire retardant additive that can be used to reduce the flammability of the jacket and other layers outside the fire barrier. These existing fire protection systems in mattresses have greatly reduced the burning time of the mattress and improved the survival of the mattress fire. However, studies of mattresses exposed to open flames for extended periods of time have shown that even mattresses treated with fire-resistant compounds will begin to burn over time, in many cases by slowing the combustion by adding a toothing compound that anodes the flame. 'But in some cases, it has been found that the bed or base of the burning bed sometimes ignites for at least a short period of time. Of course 6 200924672 I don't want to be like this. Therefore, there is still a need to improve the manufacture of mattresses and bases that are more resistant to open flames and combustion. However, there is still room for improvement. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a corner guard that is suitable for use in a bedding assembly and that provides a degree of fire resistance (FR). The corner guards described herein may contain fr polymerization reagents, combustible polymerization reagents in combination with one or more FR agents, or have FR coatings. In addition, the corner guard of the present invention has an effective FR property while while substantially maintaining the mechanical properties of the corner guard, which supports and protects the edges of the decorated furniture, such as the base or sofa. The corner guards described herein are at least partially formed to recognize that a flare that occurs during testing with respect to FR base combustion is caused by high combustion temperatures causing the corner guard to melt and then combust the molten polymeric material. In more detail, the corner guard of the bedding assembly can include a rigid body having side walls that are curved about the longitudinal axis and that are configured to be positioned at the corners of the bedding assembly, wherein the rigid body includes a fire resistant material.至少 Depending on the situation, at least a portion of the sidewall includes a fire resistant material, and the fire resistant material can be mixed within the rigid body or coated onto the rigid body or attached to the sidewall. The corner guard can be internal or external, and the rigid body can be constructed to be positioned on the base of the spring bed base, or the rigid body can be constructed to be positioned between the mattress base and the frame supporting the mattress base. The external corner guard can have optional decorative elements. The rigid body generally includes a top end, a bottom end, and a corner guard, and the corner guard further includes a positioning flange abutting the bottom end of the rigid body. Optionally, the rigid body will include a top end, a bottom end, and a corner guard, 7 200924672 and the corner guard further includes a restraining flange abutting the top end of the rigid body. An optional stiffening rib formed in the sidewall and extending in the longitudinal direction may be added, and there may be at least one reinforcing rib extending adjacent the top end of the rigid body and extending perpendicularly to the end of the rigid body. The sidewall may have a raised outer surface and the rigid system may be curved such that a portion of the sidewall is perpendicular to the other portion of the sidewall along the longitudinal axis. The thickness of the side walls of the rigid body is generally substantially uniform and the thickness can be selected in relation to the desired fire resistance/flame resistance. Similarly, the amount of FR material that is mixed with or coated on the rigid body can vary depending on the fire resistance/flame resistance sought. The material of the rigid body can be selected from plastic materials, paper, corrugated cardboard, wood, Masonite, fiberglass, metal and polyethylene, polypropylene or acrylonitrile (aCryl〇Vnitrate)-butadiene-styrene. a group of people. Fire protection materials are selected to allow corner guards to comply with California Household Equipment Technical Bulletin 129 (California Bureau 〇f Home FurnisMngs

As described above, the FR agent may be applied in the form of a layer on the FR corner protection cattle 1〇2 and 3. 2 or more surfaces to provide FR capability. The FR agent can be mixed with the FR corner guard material in some 'examples'. For example, a conventional polymerization reagent can be mixed with a suitable fr agent as previously described to form the original material of the FR corner guard. In some embodiments, the FR agent can be mixed with conventional polymerization agents during the injection molding process to form a corner guard having FR properties therein. 5 depicts an exemplary injection molding system for making FR^ guards similar to corner guards 102 and 302. In certain embodiments, the polymerization reagent or resin is combined with a suitable FR agent as discussed above. The fr agent can be mixed via a pipe 516 516 in the hopper 5 14 before heating. Alternatively, the FR agent may be combined with the molten resin via the hopper 53. In some embodiments, conventional synthetic or blending devices can be used, for example, a Banbury mixer, a dual-roll rubber mill, or a twin-screw extruder to combine a polymeric resin or reagent with a FR agent. . In general, the compositions can be prepared by blending the compositions together at temperatures which are sufficiently high to soften and plasticize the organic polymer, typically at temperatures ranging from 120 ° C to 300 t:. Because ^ ^ 嗖 therefore 'right 仃, the ingredients are at a temperature sufficient to soften and plasticize the specific organic polymer. For example, the ancient: 2: = ^ will be uniformly blended at the appropriate temperature, Excluding the above-mentioned ingredients: the compound 'then' then introduces the organic peroxide at a lower temperature to incorporate it into the mixture. In some embodiments, it may be molded, extruded, cast or formed from a plastic material. The polymeric FR mixture is made in any similar manner to the corner guard. In some embodiments, instead of mixing a conventional polymerization agent with a fr agent, the FR corner guard may include a polymerization agent having inherent sling properties, such as polyvinyl chloride. The FR polymerization reagent may contain a (iv) or various other functional groups such as a substituted aryl group, a benzodiazepine group, a 4,4, bis-dimethoxy-deoxybenzoin, which provides FR properties to a plastic material. Some alternatives In the example of the body, the FR corner guards 1〇2 and 3〇2 may include other materials to reinforce the corner guard. For example, mineral fillers and/or fiber materials such as talc, clay, glass, carbon fiber, mineral fiber may be utilized. Materials, plastic fibers, textile fibers or wires for the formation of reinforced corner guards. Fiber materials can be used in continuous tow, woven or non-woven or mesh sheets or randomly distributed short fibers. The surface of such fiber reinforced materials is used to improve adhesion between the fibrous material and the plastic material.
