Abstract
In this invention there is provided a surface light source element which is related to a surface light source element with a line light source as an edge light arranges beside the laleral side of a light guide plate and is characterized in that a pattern is constructed by a plurality of recessed bars which are formed parallel to the light source on the bottom surface of the light source, and the inclination of the recessed bar to the bottom surface is substantially in the range from more than 30 degree to less than 45 degree, and the pitch of distance between the centers of two arbitrary neighbor of recesses bars satisfies the following equations: Hv/tan(Φin) ≤ P ≤ L*Hv*0.3 (1) Φin =(C3R3+C2R2+C1R+C0)+2R-90.0 DEG (2) C0= -1.25*10<SP>2</SP>, C1=1.31*10<SP>1</SP>, C2= -3.30*10<SP>-1</SP>, C3=2.43*10<SP>-3</SP>. The surface light source element provides on image display device with excellent imaging quality by providing a light guide which can eliminate or reduce the use of a diffusion plate and reduce the occurance of dark lines which lower the imaging quality.
