Abstract

A terbium aluminum garnet (TAG) powder and a method for producing the same are disclosed. The TAG powder has a structure Tb3-xAl5O12:Mx, where M may be Ce, Eu, Tm, Nb, Yb, Gd or other rare earths; and 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5. The TAG power is synthesized by an acidic aging treatment, in which terbium oxide powder is covered with aluminum-containing compound, for forming a core-shell structure, so as to effectively reduce the diffusion distance between aluminum-containing compound and terbium oxide in a subsequent solid-state reaction method. Therefore, the subsequently calcinated TAG powder has more purity, more uniform diameter, higher fluorescence intensity, and the present method may save more process time.
