Abstract

A weft knitted fabric (1) has a nonslip portion (20) exposed while stretching an elastic thread between the courses and between the wales on the back side of a plain stitched base portion (10). The nonslip portion (20) is formed by knitting the elastic thread, respectively, through stitches (10a-10d) arranged in zigzag. Consequently, the portion stretching between the stitches (10a-10d), I.e. the linear portion (21), of the elastic thread is projecting outward while straddling one wale on the outside of the back at the base portion (10). Even if a force for slipping the weft knitted fabric (1) longitudinally or laterally with respect to the stitch direction acts on the weft knitted fabric (1), friction resistance is generated between other material rubbing on the weft knitted fabric (1) and the linear portion (21) and thereby the weft knitted fabric (1) is prevented from slipping on other material.
