Abstract

Provided is a magnetic encoder which can be utilized even in a small space. In the magnetic encoder, a magnet (12) fixed on an end portion of a shaft (11) and an IC chip (14) are taken as an encoder main body (10), wherein the IC chip is provided with a hall element for detecting magnetic field change coming with rotation of the magnet (12), and calculates the rotation angle of the shaft (11) based on the detection of the hall element, and generates various signals based on the rotation angle information. Cables (20, 21) for connecting to controller side are connected to the encoder main body (10). A relay portion (30) is provided at a midstream of the cables (20, 21). In the relay portion (30), a circuit board (32) mounted with a plurality of circuit portions for outputting the various signals generated by the IC chip (14) as well as a power circuit portion is provided. First and second connectors (33, 34) are such provided on a front surface of the circuit board (32) that they are opposed to each other along a central axis direction of the cables (20, 21). Third and fourth connectors (35, 36) are such provided on a back surface of the circuit board (32) that they are opposed to each other along the central axis direction of the cables (20,21).
