This invention discloses the automatic positioning system of a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) communication system comprising WLAN communication units, WLAN access points, and at least one server unit. The WLAN communication unit can be a WLAN phone, a PC, etc. By the communication method based on Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), a WLAN communication unit can output the instant position data packets to a WLAN access point, and at the same time use the integrated database of a server unit to confirm the ID of a WLAN phone and the address of a WLAN access point in order to obtain the relative position of the WLAN access point sending the instant position data so as to obtain the relative position of the WLAN phone. If the position of an user using a WLAN phone changes, the WLAN access point that receives the changing position data packets will also change. As a result, even when the position of an user using a WLAN phone continuously changes, the instant position can be traced. This invention uses Internet as the medium to transmit data and needs no expensive positioning devices additionally installed, so the installment cost of the whole positioning structure can be decreased.
