Abstract
The object of the present invention is to prevent iron or iron alloy from producing compound layer and perform nitrogen infiltration treatment in a shorter time to achieve the expected depth of nitrogen diffusion layer, and subsequent quenching treatment to acquire the hardened layer with sufficiently high hardness. The solution of the present invention is to place the processed SPCC material inside the furnace with a capacity of 4 cm3. The furnace is evacuated to 100 Pa and nitrogen is introduced to a pressure of 1 atmospheric pressure. The temperature of the furnace is kept at 720 DEG C and ammonia gas in a flow rate of 4 l/min and nitrogen gas in a flow rate of 1 m3/h are introduced continuously into the furnace while the exhausted gases are discharged continuously from the exhausting outlet. The process articles are kept at such a condition for 20 minutes and then taken out from the furnace and thrown immediately into an oil cooling device adjusted at 80 DEG C. The processed articles are taken out when their temperature reaches below 150 DEG C, and further cooled to room temperature.
