Abstract

The invention relates to a method for speeding up a dynamic digital image compression method by reducing number of prediction modes, mainly comprising steps of evaluating the occurrence probability of an appropriate prediction mode prior to executing internal or external prediction modes, and skipping some inspection modes according to the evaluation result in order to save compression time. The invention mainly takes macro blocks of pre-compressed image frames as input data, applies a statistical analysis to the input data, and from result of which selects appropriate prediction modes. Because the invention will execute only a few predetermined inspection modes listed in the classification table of compression standard H.264/AVC, number of inspection modes actually executed can be reduced and fast image compression can be achieved.
