Abstract

The invention is to reduce size and weight while coping with a large back light system with a wide light emitting area by using a light source having a small light emitting area. This back light system is provided with a flat light source L having a light emitting surface 21 with an area SL smaller than an area SB of its light emitting surface 22 and a light magnifying means 12 expanding light from the light emitting surface of the flat light source as large as the area of the light emitting surface of the system before reaching the light emitting surface of the back light system.
