Abstract
To initialize a disk apparatus of a slot loading system directly after a power source is turned on to smoothly boot up the disk apparatus. In the disk apparatus, a disk loading port 11 for directly loading a disk is disposed on a front surface of a chassis outer casing 23 constituted of a base body 10 and a lid body 19, a traverse 30 and a printed board 14 are provided in the base body 10 and a spindle motor 31, a pickup 32 and a driving means 33 transferring the pickup 32 are held by the traverse 30. Whether the disk exists in the disk apparatus is judged, spin-up process is performed when the disk exist and disk ejection operation is performed until a disk ejection state detecting means 45 detects a disk ejection state and a disk loading means 26 or a disk ejecting means 44 is made to operate until a disk loading waiting state is detected when the disk does not exist.
