Abstract

A latch comprises a casing (1), a latch bolt slidably mounted in the casing, an inner forend (3) secured to one end of the casing, an outer forend (31), a spring (15) arranged to act on the latch bolt to urge the latch bolt out of the casing through apertures in the inner and outer forends and a follower (19) arranged to act on the latch bolt to retract the latch bolt against the action of the spring (15). The latch bolt comprises a latch bolt lath (8, 9, 10) and a bolt head (11) which is rotatably mounted on the latch bolt lath. The inner forend (3) has a central recessed area (4) in which the bolt head (11) is located. The arrangement is such that, if the outer forend (31) is removed, the bolt head (11) can be turned through 180DEG to produce either a left-handed or a right-handed latch and the outer forend (31) can then be replaced.
