Abstract
To provide an optical compensation plate which makes contrast of a reflection type liquid crystal projector high and can obtain high display quality over a long term, and to provide a reflection type liquid crystal projector using the optical compensation plate. The optical compensation plate 40 is made by laminating an optical compensation film 42 having a retardation value in the thickness direction of 80 nm or more on a transparent glass substrate 41, wherein the reflectance at wavelength 550 nm of a surface 47 of the side in contact with air of the optical compensation film 42 is 2% or less. By forming an antireflection layer 49 directly on a half surface of the optical compensation film 42, the above described reflectance can be achieved and, moreover, also by preparing a transparent film 44 having the antireflection layer 49 formed on the half surface thereof and sticking the transparent film 44 to the surface of the side in contact with air of the optical compensation film 42, the above described reflectance can be achieved. The optical compensation film 42 also can be constituted with a laminated body of a plurality of films 42a, 43.
