Abstract

Disclosed is an optic disk recognizing method, which determines the type of a source optic disk in a movement period of an optic pickup. The method includes the steps of detecting to obtain a first focusing error signal, wherein the first focusing error signal has a trough value less than a first threshold; and detecting a second focusing error signal peak value of a second focusing error signal that is greater than a second threshold within a predetermined time period starting from the time when the first focusing error signal is acquired, and in case there is no such a second focusing error signal peak value satisfying the condition, then detecting to obtain an RF level signal peak value of an RF level signal that is greater than a third threshold at a time after the predetermined time period to the movement period of the optic pickup. As such, an optic disk drive can correctly determine if the type of the source optic disk belongs to a single-layer disk, a DVD dual-layer disk or an SACD dual-layer disk and then correctly read the contents of the optic disk.
