Abstract

An electrophoretic display device has a first substrate (1) and a second substrate (2). The first substrate is provided with a plurality of pixels. Each pixel encapsulates between pixel walls (5) an electrophoretic medium comprising a fluid (11) and a plurality of charged electrophoretic particles (12) dispersed in the fluid (11). Each pixel is divided into a plurality of imaginary sub-pixels (10). The method of manufacturing an electrophoretic display device comprises the following steps. A plurality of electrophoretic pixels is provided on the first substrate in a substantially regular two-dimensional manner. A plurality of common electrodes (16) and of pixel electrodes (15) is provided on the second substrate. The first substrate and the second substrate are laminated. A pitch dce of the common electrodes and a characteristic dimension dp of the pixels meet the relation: , and a pitch dpe of the pixel electrodes and the characteristic dimension dp meet the relation.
