Abstract

An equalizer device is for adaptively filtering an analog input signal from an optical head for scanning marks on a storage medium. The device has an amplifying element (Q4) coupled to an analog filtering circuit for forming a frequency dependent transfer function. The transfer function is adjusted to different scanning speeds of the marks. Thereto the analog filtering circuit has a frequency dependent impedance element (CB1,CB2) and a controllable impedance element (62,63) dependent on a control signal. Furthermore a controller (61) is included, for example a frequency to voltage converter, for controlling the controllable impedance element by generating the control signal in dependence of a frequency content of the analog input signal. Advantageously the transfer function of the equalizer is self adaptive to the scanning speed of the marks on the medium.
