Abstract
This invention is a control method and switch modular for an automatic power factor regulator (APFR). The control method is implemented by a digital signal processor (DSP) which can calculate the harmonic components of voltage and current to detect the harmonic resonance. For protecting the power capacitor from harmonic resonance, it will change the segment number of switching in capacitor to deviate the resonance frequency when the harmonic resonance is detected. All of the capacitor in the APFR will be turned away from the distribution power system when the over load of power capacitor still exist after changing the segment number of switching in capacitor. This invention also develops a switch modular for avoiding the inrush current when the switch modular turns on the capacitor and the arcing across the electromagnetic switch when the switch modular turns off the capacitor. Hence, this invention can extend the life of power capacitor and switch module, besides, this invention can enhance the reliability of APFR.
