Abstract
An improved method for manufacturing magnetic abrasive for use in magnetic grinding, including the steps of: evenly stirring pure iron powder and alumina powder particles; pouring the mixture into a mold; pressing the powder particles in the mold under high pressure, and introducing the mold into a vacuum sintering furnace for high-temperature heating so as to turn the metal powder particles into a plastic state, thereby bonding and coating the alumina powder particles to the surface of the iron powder particles due to binding effect; cooling the mixture to form a chunk configured to the shape of the die; crushing the chunk to irregular powder particles, where the powder particles are metal particles having sharp and polygonal alumina particles of various quantity and projecting from their surface. This invention can be adopted to mirrior-surface polishing due to the magnetic attraction feature of the iron materials by electromagnetic magnets and the grinding effect applied to the object surface and provided by the sharp and polygonal alumina particle. In the manufacturing method of this invention, nano-grade iron powder and nano-grade alumina powder particles can serve as the materials. Since the abrasive as made by this invention can hardly detach, this invention can enhance grinding efficiency and improve the quality characteristics of the object surface. This invention can also be adopted to make desired magnetic abrasive according to the degree of grinding as needed.
