Abstract
An optical fiber base material extension method is provided to set the optical fiber base material 100 in the glass lathe 10, and then the optical fiber base material 100 is elongated to a certain diameter by heating and fusing. The two ends of the optical fiber base material 100 are connected with a quartz dummy stick 110 comprising a roughness surface portion 120 which is ground. The roughness surface portion 120 is held by zippers 200 to execute the elongation process. The average roughness of the roughness surface portion 120 in the quartz dummy stick 110 is preferably under 50 μm. Or, the quartz dummy stick 110 preferably is ground at both ends, has a variable diameter in length direction, comprises a straight trunk portion 140, and is made of quartz glass.
