Abstract

A portable terminal, such as a cellular phone, and a tilt angle computing method capable of measuring the inclination of itself while suppressing effects of a user's walk etc is provided. A main control part 220 acquires data on magnetism and acceleration from a magnetic sensor control part 211 when the tilt angle of a cellular phone 100 itself is required during the execution of processing of an application program. The tilt angle of the cellular phone 100 is determined on the basis of the data on acceleration, and the angle of elevation of geomagnetism is also determined on the basis of the data on magnetism. The main control part 220 recomputes the tilt angle on the basis of the determined angle of elevation of geomagnetism and the data on magnetism, processes on the basis of the tilt angle only in the case that the tilt angle from the acquired magnetism is applicable, and processes on the basis of the tilt angle previously determined from the data on acceleration in the case that the tilt angle based on magnetism is not applicable.
