Abstract
An object of the present invention is to provide an imide resin that is easily produced and inexpensive and that has excellent transparency, excellent heat resistance, low orientation birefringence, and a sufficiently small photoelastic coefficient. The present invention relates to an imide resin produced, for example, by a reaction of a methacrylic resin with monomethylamine (or butylamine). Also, the present invention relates to a process for producing an imide resin including treating a (meth)acrylate polymer or a (meth)acrylate-aromatic vinyl copolymer with a primary amine. The imide resin of the present invention has satisfactory heat resistance, transparency, and workability. Therefore, the imide resin is useful as a polarizer-protective film.
