This invention provides an organic electroluminescence element in which a luminous layer is allocated between a hole injection electrode and an electronic injection electrode, and a hole transporting layer is allocated between a hole injection electrode and a luminous layer, wherein a reversible cathodic reduction process presents in cyclic voltarnmetric measurement, and an electron-trapping material with reduction potential smaller than that of the hole transporting material in the hole transporting layer is contained in the hole transporting layer; or a reversible anodic oxidation process presents in cyclic voltammetric measurement, and a hole-trapping material with oxidation potential smaller than that of the electron transporting material in the electron transporting layer is contained in the electron transporting layer.
