Abstract

This invention declares the process of carbon monoxide oxidation with air to form carbon dioxide at low temperature using ceria-supported nano gold catalysts. Ceria is prepared by precipitation process using cerium nitrate as the precursor and ammonia water as the precipitating agent. The precipitation medium is controlled at pH value between 8 and 1 2. The feed rate of cerium nitrate solution is 10 cc/min. The precipitate is calcined between 120-400 DEG C. The surface area of ceria is between 40-110m<SP>2</SP>/g, and the particle size is about 20 nm. Nanosized gold catalyst is prepared by deposition-precipitation using HAuCl4 as the precursor and ammonia water as the precipitating agent, at pH value between 7 and 9, temperature between 60 and 70 DEG C. The sample is calcined between 150 and 200 DEG C. Gold species is in metallic state. The reaction of CO oxidation is at room temperature with less than 50,000 h-1 space velocity. CO can be removed down to < 1 ppm.
