Abstract

This invention is related to a clock control device and the method thereof which is capable of providing a system clock signal to a microprocessor and peripheral units. The control device mainly includes: a clock generating unit for generating a first clock signal, a second clock signal; and a clock selection control unit for selecting of the first and second clock signals as the system clock signal. Under normal system operation, the first clock signal serves as the system clock signal. When the clock selecting control unit receives a power conservation signal delivered by the microprocessor, the second clock signal is selected as the system clock signal, until the clock selecting control unit receives a wake-up signal delivered by the peripheral units via hardware commands to re-select the first clock signal as the system clock signal. As such, the system clock system is controlled by the peripheral units in hardware manner to recover back to the first clock signal, so as to reduce the loading of the system firmware.
