Abstract

This invention declares the method to produce TiO2 sol. The suspended nanosized TiO2 particles with anatase structure in aqueous solution were synthesized using TiCl4 as the precursor. TiCl4 was reacted with aqueous solution of NaOH or NH4OH to form Ti(OH)4. Hydrogen peroxide was then added. The mixture was then heated at 70-100 DEG C for a period of time until all of the gel was disappeared to form TiO2 sol. The primary particles were rhombus with the major axis ca. 10 nm and minor axis ca. 4 nm, and the particles are in anatase structure. The sol was excellent in dispersibility and was stable in neutral and slight acid conditions without causing agglomeration. The transparent adherent TiO2 film on substrates could be obtained through spray-coating or dip-coating. No any further heat treatment is needed. It exhibits strong photoactivity under illuminating by UV light, sun light and fluorescence light. The TiO2 has excellent activity for waste water and air treatment. It also shows super hydrophilic properties.
