Abstract

A biosensor capable of detecting a substance to be detected of a low concentration and having an ultrahigh sensitivity. A source electrode (3) and a drain electrode (4) are formed on the surface of a substrate (1) and electrically interconnected through a carbon nanotube (CNT)(7). A gate electrode (8) is disposed on the back of the substrate (1). The back of the substrate (1) is modified with a specific material (13) reactive with the substance to be detected. A sample solution (15) containing the substance is supplied to the space between the back of the substrate (1) and the gate electrode (8). The substrate can be detected from a variation of the current-voltage characteristic between the source and drain electrodes (3, 4) caused when the substance reacts with the specific material (13).
