To achieve the subject, the electrode side 10A and the elbow side of a gooseneck fluorescent lamp 10 are alternately arranged and each inverter 17 is arranged on the directly rear side of a reflecting case 18 on the electrode feeding side of each fluorescent lamp. Thereby, the difference of tube wall temperature in the lamp axis direction and board surface direction is reduced, and the luminance difference on the board surface is reduced. As a result, as a backlight of a large screen liquid crystal display, lighting is carried out with uniform luminance.
