Abstract

This innovation discloses a power saving device of a wireless mouse. Because the power source of a wireless mouse is battery, the apparatus to save power so as to prolong the battery life time is becoming a major issue. The design rules of all prior arts focused on how to wake up the control circuits, i.e., how to drive the sensor from the sleep mode back to the operational mode. Some of the most representative prior arts include utilizing mechanical switches on mouse and then adopts the user click action to wake up the mouse in sleep mode, utilizing the optical movement sensor to sense the motion of the wireless mouse, or utilizing the change of electromagnetic filed at the time human body touch the wireless mouse. But all these techniques face the same problems, i.e., these wakeup mechanisms still consume battery power when the mouse is being put in the sleep mode. In addition, not at of the power source of the components in a wireless mouse can be shut down completely in these prior arts. Thus, electrical power still flows out when the wireless mouse stays in sleep mode, which basically indicates all these prior arts do not save battery power efficiently enough. The disclosed innovative power saving device introduces a smart structure design concept, which adopts a piezoelectric material as the basic component to serve as the wakeup mechanism. This device utilizes the piezoelectric effect that electrical energy can be generated by a mechanical deformation and the electrical energy generated is used as a trigger signal to wakeup the entire device so the mouse in sleep mode can be put in a completely no-power consumption state. When electrical energy is generated by moving or impacting the wireless mouse, the generated electrical energy is transformed into a trigger signal to wake up the wireless mouse microcontroller, i.e., change from sleep mode back to operational mode. In this approach, the disclosed innovative power saving device can efficiently save and prolong the battery life by putting the wireless mouse in a completely no-power consumption state when operated in the sleep.
