Abstract

A stretchable composite polyester fiber and manufacturing method thereof. In accordance with this method, polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) are first extruded and spun together in a side by side arrangement, and then subject to a drawing and heat treatment procedure in order to obtain a composite fiber wherein the intrinsic viscosity of PTT ranges from 0.80 Dl/g to 1.20 Dl/g and the intrinsic viscosity of PBT ranges from 0.58 Dl/g to 0.84 Dl/g. The difference between the intrinsic viscosity of PTT and PBT (Δ IV) is greater or equal to 0.15 Dl/g. The weight ratio of PTT to PBT ranges from 30: 70 to 70: 30. The Crimp Index of the composite fiber reaches above 40.
