Abstract

A sinter device and a sinter method for optical fiber base material are provided. The device is used to sinter and vitrify the optical fiber porous base material 30 to optical fiber base material. The device possesses a function to detect an extension amount of the base material 30 in the longitudinal direction. The detection function can be achieved by a camera 200 and a calculation device 220, wherein the camera 200 photographs a lower end of the base material 30, and the calculation device 220 analyzes the taken picture to find out the position of the lower end, and then to find the extension amount from the lower end position and the falling distance of the base material 30. Further, the camera 200 has a camera moving device for moving the camera 200 synchronizing with the base material 30.
