Abstract

A motor comprising separate stator or rotor sub-assemblies is provided. Each sub-assembly comprises a pole piece and a connecting piece. Complementary formations on each sub-assembly are arranged so that a pole piece can engage with the connecting piece. Thus, a first pole piece can be arranged to engage with a second pole piece within a range of angles with respect to neighbouring pole pieces. This has the advantage of allowing various numbers of pole pieces to be arranged to provide a motor rotor or stator, the diameter of which is determined by the number of pole pieces in the rotor or stator. The connecting piece is preferably integral with the pole piece.
