200304111 五、發明說明(1) [發明所屬之技術領域] 本發明係關於一種顯示裝置,特別係關於一種在每個 顯示畫素中,設有電激發光元件與薄膜電晶體的電激發光 顯示裝置。 [先前技術] 近年來,採用電激發光(Electro Luminescence;以 下簡稱「EL」)元件的EL顯示裝置,乃作為取代CRT或LCD 的顯示裝置而備受矚目。特別係驅動EL元件的開關元件已 開發有一種具備薄膜電晶體(Thin Film Transistor:以 •簡稱「TFT」)的EL顯示裝置。 第3圖係顯示具備該EL元件與TFT的EL顯示裝置之一顯 _示畫面的等效電路圖。實際的EL顯示裝置係此種顯示晝素 呈矩陣狀配置多數個而構成顯示區域。 / 第3圖係包括有第1TFT100、第2TFT1 10及有機EL元件 1_? 0的EL顯示裝置之等效電路圖,其顯示在第η列閘極信號 線5 0與第m行汲極信號線6 0的交叉點附近所形成的一顯示 晝素。 供給閘極信號Gn的閘極信號線5 0,與供給汲極信號 ^即,視頻信號Dm)的沒極信號線6 0係相互交叉。在該等 —信號線之交叉點附近,配置有機E L元件1 2 0、用以驅動 此有機EL元件120的TFT1 00、以及用以選擇顯示畫素的 TFT1 1 〇。 在有機EL元件驅動用之第1TFT100之汲極100d上,連 接有驅動電源1 0 5,並從此驅動電源1 0 5供給正驅動電壓

第10頁 314429.ptd 200304111 五、發明說明(6) EL元件亮度間之關係圖。將從共通電源1 40對有機EL元件 1 2 0所供應的負共通電壓C V設定為- 7 V。此外’白信號位準 (VI )係設定為IV,黑信號位準(V0)則設定為5V。 如圖所示,在黑信號時,有機EL元件將顯示較低亮 度,而驅動電壓PVdd將缓缓地開始上升至以上。所以, 將第1基準亮度L 1 (亦即,EL顯示未發光且可辯視黑色的基 準線)設定為20cd/m2。反之,在白信號時’有機EL元件雖 顯示較高亮度,但將隨PVdd的減少而降低。所以,將第2 基準亮度L2 (亦即,EL顯示發光且可辯視白色的基準線)設 定為 20 0cd/m2。 依照此種設定,適當的驅動電壓p v d d將在5 . 0 ^ 7 · 7 V 範圍内。上述第1基準亮度L卜第2基準亮度L 2的設定值雖 為較佳值,但是並不僅限於此,可配合EL顯示裝置的規袼 等而採用其他適當的設定值。此外,有關白信號位準 (V 1 )、黑信號位準(V 0 )亦可適當地變更。 再者,在上述實施例中’雖根據室溫下的驅動電壓 PVdd與有機EL元件亮度間之關係,設定驅動電壓PVdd之範 圍,但是因為有機EL元件的亮度具有溫度依存性,因此實 際上在考慮其溫度變化後,再設定驅動電壓PVdd範圍較為 適當。 另外,在本實施形態中,雖第1 TFT 1 0 0屬於P通道型, 而第2TFT1 1 0屬於N通道型,但是並不僅限於此,亦可第1 TFT 10 0屬於N通道型,第2TFT110屬於P通道型。 當驅動用之第1TFT100屬於N通道型時,視頻信號Dm的
