Abstract

Chimeric genes are described which encode lectins that exhibit damage (eg insects and / or fungi) that can be used in transformation of cotton to obtain cotton cells, plants and seeds in which chimeric genes are secreted. Such transformed cotton cells become fatal when eaten by cotton damage.
