Abstract

Wind power and hydropower are renewable energy sources allowing the creation of electricity by converting the rotation of turbines. Savonius rotors, simple structures, are designed to collect flow in any way. In this context, a new rotor positioning system was invented to present a simple and practical method allowing the modification of the geometric parameters of the Savonius rotor. Using this concept, it is possible to modify the number of airfoils, the secondary overlap, the external overlap as well as the rotation of a canopy. In this work, the software 'SolidWorks' was used for the design of the system taking into account all these parameters. Subsequently, and for the characterization of these different solutions, a prototype was manufactured emphasizing the usefulness of this Savonius rotor positioning system.
