The method is characterized in that the water concentration of the reaction raw materials, including phenol compounds and carbonyl compounds, is 0.05 to 0.5% by weight. Disclosed is a method for producing bisphenol compounds wherein phenol compounds and carbonyl compounds are reacted with each other in the presence of a cation exchanger containing a strong acid group and 2-(2-mercaptoethyl)pyridine.
