Such improved process includes adding the composition directly to the sugar solution in a carbonated liquor holding tank (after the last carbonation saturator), at a stage prior to the carbonation holding tank but after the last carbonation saturator, before filtration of the carbonated liquor solution, or at any stage in the sugar purification process. The compositions provided herein are mixed with the sugar solution or syrup and allowed to react for a period sufficient to produce a higher purity solution. The compositions may comprise: Combination of one or more particulate sulfur reagents, particulate phosphorus reagents, particulate aluminum reagents, silica reagents, particulate carbon reagents, particulate filter aids, polymer bleaching agents, and particulate ammonium reagents. The invention relates to compositions and processes for improving the carbonation purification of sugar solutions or syrups. Such improved process includes adding the composition directly to the sugar solution in a carbonated liquor holding tank (after the last carbonation saturator), at a step prior to the carbonation holding tank but after the last carbonation saturator, prior to filtration of the carbonated liquor solution, or at any step in the sugar purification process. The compositions provided herein are mixed with the sugar solution or syrup and allowed to remain for a period sufficient to cause a reaction to produce a higher purity solution. The compositions may comprise: A combination of one or more of sulfur reagents in particulate form, phosphorus reagents in particulate form, aluminum reagents in particulate form, silica reagents, carbon reagents, filter aids in particulate form, polymer bleaching agents, and ammonium reagents in particulate form.
