The dental cleaning element may be attached to a flexible support on the brush head and can be moved outward from the brush head. The cleaning element may comprise a vertical rod-shaped bristles located in the center of the flexible support and may further comprise a row of cleaning elements transverse to the center of the flexible support. The soft tissue cleaning element may comprise a plurality of projections for cleaning soft tissue and may have a slender ridge extending from the brush head in the same direction as the projections. The handle may comprise a base with a gripping area and projections extending from the base in the gripping area. The handle may also have a gripping surface with a plurality of long, narrow, spaced openings that expose the base. The oral care appliances are provided with a handle and a brush head with a soft tissue cleaning element and/or a dental cleaning element. The dental cleaning element may be attached to a flexible support on the brush head and can be moved outward from the brush head. The cleaning member shall comprise a series of bristles formed into a vertical rod at the center of the flexible support and may further comprise a series of cleaning elements transversely at the center of the flexible support. The soft tissue cleaning member may comprise a number of projections for cleaning soft tissue and may have a slender ridge extending from the brush head in the same direction as the projections. The handle may comprise a base with a gripping area and projections extending from the base in the gripping area. The handle may also have a gripping surface with a number of long, narrow, spaced openings that expose the base.
