ส่วนที่อยู่ภายในดังกล่าวจะทำงานร่วมกันในสภาพที่หดได้แบบยืดหยุ่นกับชิ้นดูดซับที่อยู่ชิดกับปลายดังกล่าวของส่วนที่อยู่ภายในดังกล่าว อย่างน้อยส่วนหนึ่งของส่วนที่อยู่ภายในดังกล่าวจะไม่ได้ตรึงไว้กับชิ้นดูดซับที่วางอยู่ข้างใต้ พื้นผิวด้านลำตัว ขอบด้านข้าง และขอบเอว ที่ซึ่งขนาดระหว่างขอบด้านข้างดังกล่าวนั้นรู้จักกันว่าเป็นความกว้างด้านข้างของแกนดูดซับ แผ่นหลังซึ่งของเหลวไม่ซึมผ่านที่วางอยู่ชิดกับพื้นผิวด้านเสื้อผ้าดังกล่าวของแกนดูดซับดังกล่าว แผ่นบนซึ่งของเหลวซึมผ่านที่วางอยู่ชิดกับพื้นผิวด้านลำตัวดังกล่าวของแกนดูดซับดังกล่าว และส่วนที่อยู่ภายในซึ่งอยู่ติดกันกับส่วนภายนอกดังกล่าว ส่วนที่อยู่ภายในดังกล่าวจะมีขอบใกล้เคียง ขอบที่อยู่ไกลออกไปและส่วนปลาย ขอบใกล้เคียงดังกล่าวจะเชื่อมอยู่กับชิ้นดูดซับและขอบที่อยู่ไกลออกไปดังกล่าว
