The process of the invention involves supplying the metal, ceramic, or glass object, using an aqueous solution, suspension, and/or dispersion of a coating material consisting of a thermoplastic resin, to one portion of the coated or uncoated surface, preferably the outer surface, of the underlying layer of the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating; withdrawing the material from the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating at a ratio in order to assemble an adhering membrane; and separating excess material resulting from the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating, preferably with at least one rotation around an axis, centripetal force, brush, air knife, or airflow. The coated object is then baked and/or air-dried until the membrane is utterly dry to assemble the coating. Surface preparation, such as etching, is not required prior to the application of the coating with the process of the invention. The thermoplastic resin is used. Comprising thermoplastic epoxy resins, and, preferably, container-containing objects, at least one additional coating may be applied either before or after the application of the thermoplastic resin coating. Any number of coating layers may be applied, with the preferred number being 1 to approximately 3. Preferably, at least one coating layer may be partially cross-linked to provide resistance to at least one chemical and abrasion abuse. Likewise, at least one additive may be blended with at least one coating material to provide at least one of improved ultraviolet protection, abrasion resistance, discoloration resistance, chemical resistance, and a reduced coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the object. The invention herein is directed toward a process for coating thermoplastic resins onto metals, ceramics, and glass objects. The process of the invention involves the supply of the metal, ceramic, or glass object, the application of an aqueous solution, suspension, and/or dispersion of the coating material. A coating consisting of a thermoplastic resin is formed by removing a portion of the outer, uncoated membrane, preferably the outer surface, of the layer beneath the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating. The removal of material from the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating at a specified ratio is performed to form an adhering membrane, and the separation of excess material resulting from the dip coating, spray coating, or flow coating is preferred by at least one rotation around an axis, gravity, a brush, an air knife, or airflow. The coated material is then baked and/or blown dry until the membrane is thoroughly dry to form the coating. Surface preparation, such as etching, is not necessary before applying the coating to the fabrication process of the thermoplastic resin. Comprising thermoplastic epoxy resin, and, preferably, container components, at least one additional coating may be applied either before or after the application of the thermoplastic resin coating. Any number of coating layers may be applied, with the preferred number being 1 to approximately 3. Preferably, at least one coating layer is partially cross-branched to provide resistance to at least one chemical and abrasion abuse. Likewise, at least one additive may be blended with at least one coating material to provide at least one of improved ultraviolet protection, scratch resistance, discoloration resistance, chemical resistance, and a reduced coefficient of friction of the outer surface of the component.
