These ridges 6 and grooves 7 are arranged alternately in the transverse direction B. The height t measured from the bottom surface 4 of the nonwoven fabric, fiber feature 1, to the bottom 12 of groove 7 is in the range of 40 to 55% of the height T measured from the bottom surface 4 of the nonwoven fabric, fiber feature 1, to the apex 11 of ridge 6 on the top surface 3. Some of the staple fibers 2(2a) extend along ridge 6 to adjacent groove 7 on each side of ridge 6. In the corresponding groove 7, two different staple fibers are fused to the previous staple fibers 2.

Claims

1. A fluid-permeable nonwoven fabric having longitudinal, transverse, and thickness directions perpendicular to each other, comprising a top and bottom surface that are opposite in the thickness direction and both protrude in the longitudinal and transverse directions. The top surface is formed with parallel ridges and grooves protruding in the longitudinal direction in an alternating configuration in the transverse direction. The bottom surface is essentially flat, and staple fibers made of synthetic thermoplastic resin are melt-formed to form a fluid-permeable nonwoven fabric in which the thickness t measured from the bottom surface to the bottom of each groove is in the range of 40 to 60% of the thickness t measured from the bottom surface to one vertex of each ridge, and the staple fibers used to form the fluid-permeable nonwoven fabric have a fiber length sufficient to protrude along at least one ridge to the groove on both sides of the ridge.
