Abstract

Oral mixtures, such as paste or gel toothpaste or mouthwash that contain insoluble non-cation antibacterial agents, such as triclosan, which, when used to clean teeth or gargle, reduce plaque. Teeth on teeth that are packaged in dispensing containers or bottles that include solid polymer materials such as polyfluoroethylene. which is compatible with antibacterial agents to avoid excessive loss of antibacterial activity of such antibacterial agents. In other words, different types of polymers may be used as part of the vessel, which normally result in the loss of the excessive anti-plaque effect of the antibacterial agents in the but highly potent mixtures. This was overridden by the presence of a stabilizer such as terphine, limonene, in the oral formulations described as well as a means to inhibit dental plaque.

Claims (1)

1. A device consisting of a dispensing container made of polyethylene or a solid polyethylene terephthalate polymer in contact with an oral product mixture contained within the container. The mixture contains a non-cationic halogenated diphenyl ether antibacterial and anti-plaque agent, which is predominantly water-insoluble and exhibits effective antibacterial and anti-plaque activity, and a stabilizer to ensure the polymer material is compatible with the oral product mixture. This compatibility is such that, after storage at room temperature, the loss of the active ingredient is less than approximately 25%. 2. A device as per claim 1 consisting of an opaque dispensing container. 3. A device as per claim 1 where the mixture is a toothpaste paste, gel, or liquid; mouthwash or dental treatment paste, gel, or liquid; and where the container is a transformable dispensing tube, pump dispenser, compression dispenser, or pouch for the toothpaste paste, gel, or dental treatment paste or gel, or a bottle or other container. Device under claim 1 where the mixture contains terpenes or flavoring agents in a quantity that provides stability, thus stabilizing the antibacterial agent in the presence of such solid polymer material. 16.
