1. 5-[4-(2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione, hydrochloride monohydrate is characterized by i) exhibiting infrared spectra with peaks of 3392, 2739, 1751, 1325 and 731 cm⁻¹ and/or ii) exhibiting X-ray diffraction (XRPD) patterns with peaks of 9.1, 12.0, 15.7, 16.3 and 19.8 degrees 20. 2. The process for the preparation of the hydrate under claim 1 is characterized by the following: 5-[4-(2-(N-methyl-N-(2-pyridyl)amino)ethoxy]benzyl]thiazolidine-2,4-dione (compound I) shall be acted upon with a suitable hydrochloride antagonist source and a suitable amount of water for hydrochloride hydrate formation; and subsequently the desired compound shall be recovered. 8. A pharmaceutical compound containing the hydrate as per claim 1 in an effective and non-toxic quantity, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for such compound. 9. Hydrated as per claim 1 for use as an active ingredient in therapeutic applications. 10. Hydrates under claim 1 for use in the treatment and/or prevention of diabetes, diabetic conditions and their specific complications, including nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, glumerulonephritis, glumerular atherosclerosis, nephrotic syndrome, hypertensive renal artery disease and end-stage renal disease. 11. Use of hydrates under claim 1 for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals for the treatment and/or prevention of diabetes, diabetic conditions and their specific complications, including nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, glumerulonephritis, glumerular atherosclerosis, nephrotic syndrome, hypertensive renal artery disease and end-stage renal disease.
